Linux
The best Linux distro for your Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V2000.
(Yes, it's an old laptop, I know... but it still works great!)
The first distro I tried, and used for several months, was the excellent Linux Mint. But it had a nasty tendency of freezing. So I moved on to Ubuntu, which is also based on Debian just like Linux Mint. But this was even worse, especially the latest "fantastic" revision 9.10.
After several hours and a lot of frustration, I installed OpenSUSE 11.1... But as always none of the distros works 100% out of the box, in my case it was to get the wireless network card to work.
I visited this site (http://forums.opensuse.org/archives/sf-archives/archives-tips-tricks-tweaks/339061-wireless-howto-10-3-fujitsu-siemens-amilo-pro-v2000-m7400.html) to get some instructions on how to get the wireless network card to work. But it did not work. I was not ready to give up, so after some thorough searching on Google I found the answer on a german Suse forum! (Thank you Google Translate!)
To get the wireless network card up and running, do the following:
1. start terminal
2. log in as root
3. in terminal, write: "modprobe wistron_btns" (This activates the hotkeys used to turn on the wireless network card.)
4. Press the hotkey for the wireless network card to turn it on.
5. You should get all available wireless networks on your NetworkManager.
6. Select your network, and voila! you are now on the internet!
I've used OpenSUSE for quite some time now, and I have still not experienced problems like I did with the Debian based Linux distros, if you have the Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V2000 and want to use Linux, install OpenSUSE!
